Detailed below are the major Webkataloge. Again not every freature is included, however, I think you will agree that the information is useful nevertheless.

Cost for review For commercial sites a fee of US$299.00 is payable and is a non-refundable, automatically recurring annual fee. Review within 7 business days. No guarantee of acceptance.
"Web-Sites" Algorithm: Yahoo! "Web-Results" works on a basic algoritm involving keyword in category name, keyword prominence and inclusion in Title, URL and description. Basically try to get your keywords in each of the above elements and in each element have it at the beginning or close to the beginning where possible.
Pay per Click: Yahoo! currently uses for Yahoo.com Overture for its pay per click sponsoring . For europe it is mostly Espotting . These are split into groups of 4. Top 4 on the first page 5-8 on the second etc..
Web search results from: Web search results are currently drawn from the Google database.
Averarage wait for inclusion For commercial sites (Yahoo! Express inclusion) you should not have to wait more than 7 days for a review. Note I said review, not inclusion. You only pay to have your site reviewed. They are not obligated, quite rightly, to include every paid for submission. For free / non-commercial submission you can wait up to 2 months or more for a review.

 

Cost for review Completely free of charge to all. There are literally thousands of ODP editors worldwide who volunteer their time to maintain the ODP database.
"Open directory Sites" Algorithm: Very similar to Yahoo!. There may be small differences but my own study still suggests that ODP wants to see keywords in category, URL, title and description.
Pay per Click: There is no pay per click or sponsored links of any kind on ODP. ODP by the way is part of the AOL group.
Web search results from: ODP used to, but no longer uses Google as back fill.
Average wait for inclusion: Varies wildly and very much depends on the category (No. of sites in the waiting list) and the diligence of the volunteer editor. If the category you wish to be included has no editor politely ask the editor next up in the heirarchy for a site review. Alternatively apply to be editor yourself but don't do so unless you intend to abide by their rules and regulation. After a month has passed you may wish to politely ask the reviewer the status of your inclusion.

 

Cost for review: For small to medium businesses there is a sliding scale of monthly fees which cover a set amount of clicks, The cost equates to $0.15 per click. Pricing scale ranges from just $15 per month for 100 clicks to $2400 for 16,000 clicks. There is also a $29,00 set up fee. Above a $2,400 monthly budget and the sales people want to speak to you. Free entry for non commercial websites only through the Zeal.com directory.
Directory Algorithm Difficult to tell really. I would say title and description are factors, but there may well be a level of payment factor (he/she who pays the most..) as well in their search results.
Pay per Click: Looksmart are essentially pay per click providers themselves and provide sponsored listing on Netscape, MSN, About.com and some other minor directories and search engines.
Web search results from: Their own pay for review listings with Inktomi providing the backfill.
Average wait for inclusion: There appears top be no turnaround time stated on their website bu tI assume it to be within 48 hours. I've asken them and I'm waiting for a reply.
